I got it from Amazon as a returned unit and it did have significant cosmetic damage but nothing that compromised it’s working.It has very low runout and grips better than the keyed chuck it replaced. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Its one of Grizzly's most popular drill press and people seem to love it with one exception *by E***S on Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2017* So I recently picked up a Grizzly G7943 drill press for my wood shop. It was a machine that I put off buying for a long time, because for a wood worker you just dont need a drill press all that often. The problem is when you need a drill press you really need it. So I went ahead and picked up the Grizzly G7943. Its one of Grizzly's most popular drill press and people seem to love it with one exception. There is a lot of run out at either the chuck or arbor that comes with the grizzly drill press. Now I do know from owning a drill press in the past. That no matter how much you pay for a drill press. The chuck is the one place the manufacture skimps on to cut costs. So a lot of times if you are going to have a problem with a new drill press its going to be either at the chuck or arbor. So instead of taking the chance I went ahead and ordered this Jacobs Chuck and Jacobs arbor when I purchased the drill press.Now drill chucks are just something I knew absolutely nothing about other than the fact that they are what holds the drill bit, so i had to do someone research because I like to get the best for my money. I knew that i wanted a chuck that has a total indicated run out of no more than .003 and I did not want to spend an arm and a leg for it. There are really expensive chucks that have TIR of like .0041 but I just dont need anything that precise for woodworking and I did not want to spend the 400-500 bucks they cost. One name that I consistently came across was Jacobs. The company has been around for a long time. They make quality chucks even in the lower price range such as this one. It is a keyless chuck and could hold up to a 1/2 shank drill bit down to a 1/32 which is what I need. I was not able to find anything that listed the manufacture rating for TIR on these chucks but people who had them seem to really like them so I ordered this one along with a jacobs arbor. Got it on my drill press and used a dial caliper on a magnetic base to test the run out at the arbor. The run out at the arbor was just barely .002. Some of the highest quality bits of any type that I have are my Whiteside router bits. So I installed one in the chuck. Tested with the dial caliper on the bit and the needle just barely went past .002. So this bit was perfect for what I needed it. Grabbed a 1/16 drill bit and used it to bore a bunch of holes in a piece of birch. With a drill bit this small. If there is to much run out at the drill bit. That drill bit will snap while drilling through hardwood. Everything worked flawlessly. Tightened around the drill bit very tight so no worries there. I was not able to test a 1/32 bit because I did not have one, but I suspect the same results.Yes there are much cheaper chucks than these Jacobs chucks, but I really didnt want to go any cheaper than this one. This chuck as met all of my needs and expectations of it. So I am ordering another one to use on my lathe. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Very accurate chuck - keyless is NOT an issue *by K***T on Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2022* I used to think you needed a keyed chuck to make sure the jaws were tight enough, but this chuck has grip to spare. The way they built it, when loaded it tightens itself but not to the point where it's hard to release. I put a dial indicator on it and its true to within 4/1000ths total runout (so 2/1000ths from center axis which includes the small runout in the spindle). I put a big 1.25" forstner bit into it and drilled some hard maple and it cut right in no issues. It opens and closes very smoothly too.
