Keep in mind that USB 3.1 will not get full NVME speeds so it makes more sense to use this with a M.2 SATA SSD than an M.2 NVME SSD. The speeds that I get when using it on my computers' USB-C ports are fast enough for me to run modern games off of it which I could see being pretty useful for folks that don't feel the need to use up their laptop's internal storage for some PC games (150GB+). There are very few M.2 ports that would actually load a PC game faster than this external enclosure, which is pretty impressive. The only M.2 port I've seen run faster than this is the primary M.2 port on my desktop PC's mainboard (AMD CPU version of the Asus Tuf B250-Plus). The secondary M.2 port runs on my mainboard runs the same speed as this external enclosure even though it's directly connected to the mainboard. In terms of full speeds, this thing tops out at 600MB/s (also known as about 5Gb/s). I have not seen it go the full advertised speed (1200MB/s or 10Gb/s), even when using it with an M.2 NVME on a computer with the latest and greatest USB-C ports. This may have to do with my NVME SSD not being fast enough but I wouldn't be surprised if 600MB/s is the actual max speed for this enclosure, the manufacturers' of these enclosures use some special testing equipment to determine the max speed which is in practice actually only theoretical. According to other folks' reviews, it doesn't work with running SMART tests and I wouldn't be surprised if that's true. This enclosure is more about the convenient form factor which allows multiple of these enclosures to be plugged in side by side on a modern day laptop's USB-C ports as well as plugging them in on top of each other on the USB-A 3.1 ports on the back of a desktop because they are these enclosures are that thin. For that reason, these things are pretty much better than every other enclosure I've seen for M.2 SSDs. My only criticism is that there used to be another version of this that was the exact same thing except it was completely tool-free: instead of requiring screws to remove the enclosure, the enclosure was held together with magnets so it was possible to slide off the panel to disassemble the enclosure and take out the internal components. Then it was possible to swap out the M.2 SSD without using any tools since the M.2 SSD fastener could pretty much be taken out by hand or by using one of those soft TPU/rubber fasteners that just pops into place. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works as described. I use it frequently and replace the drive constantly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Handiest PCIe M.2 NVME Drive enclosure you'll ever use *by T***R on November 23, 2021* I primarily purchased this PCIe M.2 NVME Drive enclosure to move data from an old PC to a New PC that had larger drives and was very happy with its performance. the Enclosure came with a small screw driver and some cooling pads and an adapter from USB A to USB C, as pictured in the product item page. I like this alot as a means to transport large files between computers like a normal USB Stick, but i dont think i would leave it in long term as there is no real cooling flowing into the enclosure (no vents) but that is by design as this is a temporary use drive that helps you recycle your old NVME Drives when you get a new drive or new computer. This M2 SSD adapter adopts M key Socket, but can support both M.2 PCI-e Based M Key Nvme SSD, and SATA based B+M key or B Key SSD.
