## Description

The Wassily Chair, also known as the Model B3 chair, was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 while he was the head of the cabinet making workshop at the Bauhaus, in Dessau, Germany. Despite popular belief, the chair was not designed for the non objective painter Wassily Kandinsky, who was concurrently on the Bauhaus faculty. However, Kandinsky had admired the completed design, and Breuer fabricated a duplicate for Kandinsky's personal quarters. The chair became known as Wassily decades later, when it was re-released by an Italian manufacturer who had learned of the anecdotal Kandinsky connection in the course of its research on the chair's origins.This chair was revolutionary in the use of the materials bent tubular steel and canvas and methods of manufacturing. It is said that the handlebar of Breuer's 'Adler' bicycle inspired him to use steel tubing to build the chair, and it proved to be an appropriate material because it was available in quantity. The design and all subsequent steel tubing furniture was technologically feasible only because the German steel manufacturer Mannesmann had recently perfected a process for making seamless steel tubing. Previously, steel tubing had a welded seam, which would collapse when the tubing was bent.

Review: Hey beautiful great chair - I have enjoyed owning this chair very much. It is a beautiful historic design and I find quite comfortable. I recommend this over the Baxton model. Worth the extra money for the quality product... It has good stitching and good leather.
Review: Not what you think - buyer beware - My alleged Wassily chair arrived today as scheduled but...the box identifies it as a WassiEly chair and the chrome is more brass colored than chrome...especially noticeable because it is among other CHROME and leather / glass pieces. In places the "chrome" almost looks as though it has oxidized but I can't say that for sure. Clearly this chair was substituted for the chair displayed online and is not the product advertised. If I had paid the alleged full $999 price for it I would be returning it tomorrow but for the $400 I paid the hassle of repacking and reshipping isn't worth it. I am very disappointed that an desertcart vendor would pull this bait and switch stunt and I hope desertcart takes note of the fraud. It's an OK chair and looks like a Wassily chair and is probably worth the $400 I paid for it but...buyer beware. On the plus side the packaging was excellent and the box arrived by FedEx not only on-time but intact and undamaged. There were other chairs I looked at on Designer Seating's website that I would have ordered but not now.

**Q: there are two reviewers mention it is leather, i just want to make sure if it is leather or leather like canvas?**
A: It is leather but not of a very good quality.  I also thought the chrome finish was very thin...I returned the chair and found one in Houston that was much better

I have enjoyed owning this chair very much. It is a beautiful historic design and I find quite comfortable. I recommend this over the Baxton model. Worth the extra money for the quality product... It has good stitching and good leather.
