## Overview

The Nyko Data Bank Plus is a versatile upgrade dock for PlayStation 4 that allows gamers to expand their internal memory by adding a 3.5" or 2.5" hard drive of their choice. This product not only replaces the PS4's top cover but also enhances storage capabilities, making it a cost-effective solution for game saves and installations. With universal compatibility and an LED access indicator, it’s the perfect addition for any serious gamer looking to optimize their console.

## Description

Easily upgrade the PS4's HDD space with the Data Bank Plus for PlayStation 4. The Data Bank Plus allows the use of a 3.5'' hard drive in addition to the stock 2.5'' hard drive that comes pre-installed in the system. This is a new feature for the Data Bank Plus and allows the stock HDD to still be used as storage. Switching between the two hard drives is simple and is done by the press of a button while the console is powered off. Typically, 3.5" hard drives have a higher read/write speed than 2.5" hard drives, which may slightly improve load times in some games and are available at higher capacities for a lower cost. The Data Bank also features a front facing LED indicator which illustrates when the PS4 is accessing or saving content on the HDD. The Data Bank is powered by a built-in power pass-through cord so it does not require its own power outlet. Installing the Data Bank Plus is easy and takes only a few minutes. After backing up your saved data, simply remove the top cover of the PS4 and take out the internal 2.5" hard drive by removing one screw via the included screw driver. Slide the included Universal Cartridge into place, fasten it down with the screw and then snap the Data Bank onto the top of the PS4. Once installed, place the 2.5" hard drive in the Data Bank and then place a SATA 3 3.5" hard drive in and attach the cover. The last step is to plug the power pass-through cord into the PS4 and then plug the PS4 power cord into the pass-through port. Detailed instructions on how to back up and transfer PS4 save files, Data Bank installation and how to initialize the PlayStation 4 firmware on a new drive are included in the box. With the Data Bank Plus installed, the storage capacity of the PS4 can be expanded up to 8TB* with a 3.5" hard drive, drastically increasing the amount of games and save files that can be stored on the system. Note: You must be running PlayStation 4 firmware 3.50 or higher to use above mentioned hard drive sizes. Not compatible with PS4 Slim or PS4 Pro

Review: UPDATE WITHIN:6 TB Hard Drive Works Great! - UPDATE : Sony has released update 3.15 on January 13th, 2016. This update allows larger hard drives to be used natively in rest mode with the PS4. I have a 6tb drive, and it works perfectly now. No more messing with shutting it down or turning it on. Everything now works as it should. I purchased this enclosure in order to upgrade my ps4 to a 6TB hard drive. The enclosure comes in some pretty nice packaging, and is easy to get out. The instructions are pretty clear and precise, and installation was a breeze. Once installed, I loaded up my ps4 with new firmware, and all worked well. At first I kept my playstation in rest mode, and had issues turning it back on, but after searching on the internet I found a solution that will allow you to use rest mode without the ps4 going into safe mode all the time. TIPS Using Rest Mode with 6TB Hard Drive Rest mode can be used with larger hard drives but when turning it on you must physically press the power button, and hold it for about 6 seconds. If you turn on the ps4 this way it will not boot into the safe mode asking you to reinstall the firmware. About 99% of the time I do it this way my ps4 will turn on fine, and any game that was downloaded in rest mode has worked for me. It's a bit of a hassle but the convenience of using rest mode to download games, and updates is worth it along with the extra storage space. When turning on my ps4 this way I have encountered very little problems. While it is a bit annoying it is still worth it, and everything else works perfectly. I highly recommend this if you are looking to upgrade your ps4's hard drive. EDIT: I am having issues with rest mode now. My ps4 did have a power outage, and now it seems to always boot into rest mode. I am not sure if the outage is the cause, but I just wanted to notify all of you. My ps4 doesn't have anything to download anymore so that may be it as well. I am thinking of doing a reinstall to test, and will update once everything is completed. EDIT 2: It seems that when the ps4 has something downloading it will work in rest mode, and shut down properly. But if there is nothing downloading the ps4 does not know how to shut down the large hard drive, and that is how the safe mode issue is caused. I also can't shut down the ps4 unless something is downloading, but modes have issues.
Review: Works fine with a little effort - Short Review: Reccommend this with up to a 4 TB HDD. The Data Bank works ok so far with my 4 TB WD Green HDD. Data Bank looks nice enough, seems halfway sturdy. Instructions that come with the Data Bank are very nice, but I think you may need to follow them step by step because I didn't and ran into issues. Maybe you actually do need to install the OS in safe mode. You get to the safe mode by holding down the power button until the second beep. Whole Story: I bought the Data Bank and a 4 TB WD My Book since it was cheaper than any other 4 TB hard drive I've ever seen (it was $96) and decided that I'd just remove it and stick it in the Data Bank. Removing the hard drive from the enclosure wasn't too hard, there are probably even videos on how to do it. Regardless of that, whether you decide to buy an external drive and remove it or just get an internal hard drive, I HIGHLY recommend downloading the software to your USB drive first before you get to work on anything else since it takes the most time out of the whole process. Also, I recommend downloading all of your save data to a USB drive prior to swapping out the hard drives. You don't necessarily need to do this as much if you're a PS Plus member, but it's not too bad of an idea to be on the safe side. When I first booted up my PS4 with the new HDD in it, everything worked well for a while. Once I put in a physical disk though, it said the data was corrupted and asked me to delete it and reinstall it. I did this, and it said the same thing again and again for a few times. Used the "rebuild database" option on the PS4 a time or two, nothing worked. The games would install, but I couldn't play them, and I always got the same "data is corrupted, delete and reinstall" message. I had to initialize my PS4 again, and once I did my games started working. The first time I transferred the OS onto my PS4 HDD I did NOT do so in Safe Mode, and I think this may have been the reason for my aforementioned troubles. I haven't imported my previous save data to the new hard drive yet, I just installed and booted up a game to make sure it actually worked. I'm going to install the rest of my games and import my save data and hope everything continues to work, either way I'll update this post with more information. Four stars so far, five if I can come back to this in a week or so and still say I recommend it and everything works. Update: Might not have been my non safe mode OS install that made my hard drive not recognize any games. I did however get the hard drive to recognize some games once I reinstalled the OS under safe mode, but there was still one game that wouldn't launch after the update file for it installed. I then took the hard drive out and reformatted it to exFAT and that seems to have solved my problems. Since I reformatted my hard drive to exFAT haven't had the usual "corrupt data" or "disk unreadable" messages, nor have I gotten the error codes 30012 or 30034 to come up when launching my games. Still using the same WD Green 4TB hard drive that I pulled out of a 4TB WD My Book. So far I'm happy with both the Data Bank and the WD 4TB Green hard drive, even though it takes a little bit of effort to make it work properly.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Great, but be mindful of some sleep mode issues on larger drives.
*by G***N on August 6, 2015*

Easy to install, though you do have to re-download everything (expected but a pain). The extra space is a dream! I'm using a 4TB hybrid drive and functions great for gameplay. Though with such a large drive I'm not able to use the PS4's sleep mode any longer. The system hard crashes and must run through system checks on next boot if you allow it to go to sleep. I have to power down completely after each play. For me it's worth the trade-off to have the extra space though I wish Sony would release a patch to address this. It's not Nyko's fault.
