The valve prevents air from going out from the patient, which protects the rescuer from airborne pathogens. It is very clearly marked which side is to go toward the patient. That marking is better than other providers of similar products. The gloves are non-latex, and medium sized. I was able to get them on and off. My hands are average sized for a man. The gloves are pleasantly sturdy; they didn't break when I flexed my hands. They were translucent. I was able to perform tasks like typing when wearing them, so I'd be able to do first aid too. I recommend all of my students to carry a breathing barrier and gloves.
