Review: Solid choice from Japan - I’m not a matcha expert as I’ve only been drinking matcha for a little over a year now; still, Encha matcha has become my favorite. I’ve purchased both the barista grade and the latte grade of Encha matcha and I prefer the latte grande for my hot beverages. The color is a nice bright green and it blends smoothly with a milk frother. I use a barista oat milk with this for my lattes and I really like the taste as the matcha flavor really shines through. The size is ideal with 30 servings per package but since I prefer a stronger fix, it yields a little less than that for me. Also, I’ve learned to be careful when opening the package to avoid spilling the powder. The price is fair too, especially if there’s an additional percentage off or if you buy it on a limited time deal. Overall, this is a solid choice if you’re looking for a bright, full flavored, organic matcha that is grown in Japan. Tip - Store it in the fridge to preserve freshness!
Review: Loving daily since March 2016! - Over a year ago, I went on a journey to find a good quality, good tasting, and affordable Matcha. I tried many different products and read many different matcha reviews and I ended up falling in love with Encha Matcha. Unfortunately it was not on desertcart at that time, but luckily they offered a discount for a subscription plan which worked out great for me. I am so excited to now have this matcha available via desertcart!!! I started off with the Ceremonial grade, but in order to save on costs and since I was making my tea with a little honey, agave, and almond milk, I've been very pleased with the Latte grade. The latte grade is slightly more bitter tasting than the ceremonial grade, but again, it doesn't really matter to me since I make mine with honey, agave, and almond milk. I literally crave this tea every morning! Pros: - Just Google the health benefits of Matcha! - No energy spikes, jitters, or crash like I used to experience with coffee. - One cup in the morning literally lasts me all day. I no longer have the afternoon "slump" like I used to with coffee. - I really love the company! ie. Organic and farm-to-cup philosophy. I also appreciated their "how to make matcha" video on their website. Cons: - A bit more of a process to make a cup of matcha vs. a cup of joe. - Maybe slightly more cost vs. cheap, at home coffee. Definitely cheaper though vs. a coffee-chain habit. - I miss the smell of coffee. :) Advice in making matcha: - Make a paste first. Add just a tad of water/milk to 1 tsp of matcha to make a paste. From there, add your hot water and whisk like normal. Helps avoid clumps floating on the surface. - Highly recommend investing in a bamboo whisk or a frother. You really can't get a good mix with just a spoon. - If making with a bamboo whisk, I also recommend making it in a small bowl vs. a cup. That allows you the space needed to whisk back and forth. Cheers to your health!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what is the difference between ceremonial and latte grades since they are both 1st harvest?**
A: I'd be happy to answer this question. This is Dr. Li Gong, Founder of Encha.Ceremonial-grade Encha is ground from premium 1st-harvest leaves, the most tender leaves, in each spring harvest (May) in our farm in Uji, Japan. It is best suited for the ceremonial style of drinking matcha with just water. The taste is delicate, smooth and refreshingly grassy. Latte-grade Encha is ground from standard high-quality 1st-harvest leaves in our farm. When prepared just with hot water, Latte grade tastes a bit stronger (astringent or bitter) than Ceremonial grade. But that extra taste strength makes it more suitable to balance with the creamy taste of milk for matcha latte. Latte-grade, 1st-harvest, Encha Organic Matcha delivers a much greener and smoother cup of matcha latte compared to using 2nd, summer or autumn harvest of matcha. Ceremonial-grade and Latte-grade Encha have the same amount of nutrients because they are both from 1st harvest in our farm. Please view the package detail picture (the 3rd pic) to see the content amount.

**Q: Is it tested for radiation? From Fukushima?**
A: Encha has their Analytical Certificate of Radioactivity posted on their website. The date of this analysis is dated for June 20, 2017 and no radiation was detected. Also posted on their website: "We still conduct annual radioactivity test. Radioactivity is NEVER detected in Encha Organic Matcha. Encha is grown in the Uji mountains in the Kyoto prefecture in central south Japan. Its mountainous area is far from the 2011 Fukushima site."Hope this helps! :)

**Q: is the packaging BPA free?**
A: Yes, Encha Organic Matcha packet is BPA-free! Safety is a paramount quality criterion for Encha. If possible, we would like the entire world to go natural and organic. Thank you for asking this question!Li Gong, Ph.D.Founder of Encha

**Q: Same health benefits as Ceremonial Matcha?**
A: Thank you for asking this question. And thanks to Robert to responding first. The Grades page of Encha site lists detailed information of three grades of Encha pure, organic matcha powder, all grown in our farm in Uji, Japan. All three grades of Encha have the same content in terms of FDA nutrition values and have the same amount of antioxidant Catechins. Ceremonial-grade Encha is ground using premium, most tender leaves from our spring harvest in May. Latte-grade Encha is ground from standard high-quality 1st-harvest leaves in our farm. They also have the same amount of caffeine and theanine. They both taste very good. Ceremonial-grade Encha is more delicate and smooth. That's why we offer it as Encha's ceremonial grade. Culinary-grade Encha is from our farm's premium 2nd harvest in late June. It has the same FDA nutrition content, same amount of antioxidant Catechins, but has less caffeine and theanien due to stronger sun exposure. Please let me know if these information helps you decide on which grade of Encha suits your need. thank you,Li Gong, Ph.D.Founder of Encha

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic, delicious matcha at a reasonable price. My entire family is drinking this now.
*by D***Z on March 27, 2020*

This review will be for both the Ceremonial and Latte grade matcha from Encha. I have tried a decently wide range of matcha in the past from packets found at Costco, to the sickly sweet Americanized Dunkin Doughnut version, to cups provided at high end restaurants and ryokan in Japan. This matcha is easily among the best that I have had, and is by far the best bang for the buck. The first impression you get when you open the pouch is how vibrant green the powder is and how wonderful it smells. There are no visible lumps in the powder and it is extremely fine. A little bit of powder always escapes when I squeeze the air out of the packet before I reseal it and it is so light and fine that it floats for a while in the air. I do sift the Ceremonial grade through a fine mesh strainer although I suspect this is overkill. I do not sift the latte grade and thus far I have not had any issues so long as a whisk it for an appropriate amount of time. As for preparation I follow the instructions on the packet and the videos that Encha provides and I have been very pleased with the end result although I tend to make 1.5 to 2x the serving. The fresh, grassy, slightly earthy fragrance is very apparent in the Ceremonial grade. The flavor is very smooth and feels wonderful on the tongue with just a tiny hint of bitterness at the finish, just enough to enhance the experience rather than detract from it. The matcha foams very well and it is not difficult to create a very fine foam with a traditional bamboo matcha whisk (I do not own an electric frother). The Latte grade aroma is very similar to the Ceremonial although the flavor is bolder and the bitterness at the end more apparent. Add some soy mild or regular cow milk and the bitterness diminishes greatly or goes away altogether if you add enough while retaining the fresh grassy/earthy taste. Thus far for storage, after I scoop out the powder I squeeze out any extra air before resealing it and then put it back in the fridge. I have compared the matcha from the last few scoops of a pouch of Ceremonial grade to matcha from a fresh pouch and have not noticed any significant differences in appearance or taste. Up front the pouches seem expensive but they really are not for the quality you get. When I was the only one drinking, I drink matcha about 5 days a week as an alternative to coffee. The 60g packet lasts me about a month. So for the Ceremonial grade I can have a large mug full (~7-9oz) of top quality matcha with all the unique health benefits for for about $1.70 each time. Compared to $2 or more for a medium coffee from a coffee shop it is absolutely worth it. Initially I was the only one drinking but the rest of the family enjoyed the taste so much that they asked me to prepare them portions whenever I drink as well. I am very glad to have found this fantastic product and if you are looking for a high quality matcha you will not regret your purchase.
