Pillows should probably be washed about every 5 or 6 months. It will fluff them up like new and make them last for years. The covers can be washed separately every week if you like. Go easy on the amount of detergent so it will rinse out well. I use maybe 2 or 3 tablespoons at most. (Like one small splash or less than 1/4 cup) Use at least 3 rinse cycles to make sure all the soap is out. I personally use unscented detergent because the pillows are right up against your nose and you are breathing that. Wash on warm. They can be washed with the covers in place or with the covers off. Either way will turn out great! Spin on a high speed so they won't take so long to dry. Dry on low temp for at least 1 1/2 hrs. I find no need for any additional pillow covers(other than the one the pillow came with) if you simply wash your pillows regularly. It will keep your pillows like new! Yes, part of the pillow goes flat, but all I ever do is shake it out and it goes back to it's original shape and density. I love this pillow and decided on it after trying and returning about 6 different pillows. My physical therapist told me not to use a 'puffy' pillow, and he was right.
