I was a little nervous about the fit. I have been typically between a L and XL and the L had plenty of room for my wide hips! It is not super thick but I think will be fine for the majority of MN winters.UPDATE: I have now actually worn this jacket out and about in the cold and love it even more. it has a few KEY features that I love in a quality winter jacket. The pockets are fleece lined to keep hands warm. It is cut well and moves well and is not to restricting when active. The collar is also fleece lined with buttons so it is soft on your face with no cold zipper right on your chin. The only down side is that the hood it slightly oversized and has no drawstring, but not a problem for me.
