My old ones were lost (another story). These are excellent and this type of slicers is dominant in Europe. The negative reviews seem to reflect upon the lack of technique. There is simply no comparison to the ones common here with a wire strung across something resembling a slingshot. I don't mean that description to sound negative, but I just can't think of a better one. To avoid the chunk at the end of the slice, just rotate the slicer 90 degrees near the end and finish the slice that way. If someone wants to get one wide slice from a wide brick or loaf of cheese, a slicer like at a deli counter would be a better choice, although more expensive, take up more space, and more work to clean.I find that buying prepackaged sliced cheeses is generally more expensive than bricks or loaves. Plus, the variety of un-sliced cheeses is much greater. They are both stainless steel with a plastic handle and work very well. Made in Sweden, good quality and a real steal. For under $20 you get two. The one that's designed for soft cheese can also be used for hard cheese.
