I put mine next to the kitchen back door. So convenient to just throw my food scraps in there after preparing food or eating a meal. The worms reproduce quickly and turn the compost into wonderful castings rather fast. I would recommend also having a paper shredder to shred a bunch of newspaper to add into the bins as well. The manufacturer recommends having a 50/50 ratio of "greens" to "browns." Adding shredded paper as a "brown" helps keep the moisture balance inside; it would get too moist if all you added was food scraps.I bought the 1 pound bag of red wigglers to start my composter. They are hard working little guys. However, I think they are too small to use for fishing purposes. Easy fix; just go to your local bait shop and buy a bunch of nightcrawlers and add them too. They like living in the composter just fine, and they get along with the other worms. Nightcrawlers don't compost as quickly, so I think the red wigglers are good to have to keep breaking down your compost as a good rate.It also makes a great on-going science project for your kids. They like looking in the worms from time-to-time.The worm castings it produces is GREAT for the garden.I did have a brief issue with fruit flies on my composter. I just added more shredded paper, and covered the layer of compost with a pretty thick layer of non-shredded, moist sheet paper. That seemed to block the flies from getting in to the compost.Overall, a great little unit that is easy to use and doesn't take up very much floor space. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ NO LID!!! *by T***6 on Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2017* I didn't realize I was making the mistake of buying a model that doesn't have a lid.It only has a flat piece that sits down inside the top tray. If your planning on using thisoutside this model will not work. Any rain will flood your trays.On the up side the seller made every effort to get me a lid. But I decided to try it as is.My mistake for ordering the wrong model.The seller "the Squirm Firm" gets a 5 star rating from me though. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid Worm Farm with a Drawback or Two *by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2017* I had an older worm farm with more spindly legs and slightly bigger trays. It worked well until the legs started breaking, the lid blew off in a storm, and it became harder to keep the worms happy. This Worm Factory has a much more solid leg design, though it shares a pretty flimsy lid. I intend to design and build a wooden lid that will stay on and protect the worms in inclement weather.So - this is a solid design and I've found that the smaller trays fill slightly faster, which is a good thing, as you get a tub of casings more frequently to amend to your soil. Also, now with a brand name farm, I'll be able to get replacement parts in the future.
