It was a little pricier than I am used to paying so I really hope it lasts for several years. I did read other reviews where people said they had a hard time finding replacement filters. If that is the case, then I will just buy the course and smooth generic filter pads and cut them to fit. I plan on adding a water feature soon. Very prone to algae due to hot weather. So it is hard to find a good stand-alone submersible system that doesn't require a major upgrade to my pond. This filter does a beautiful job of keeping the water crystal clear. It is easy to clean, maintain, and handle. I have owned it for almost six months and I have nothing but good things to say abou it. I used to own the oval shaped brand and it was cumbersome, flimsy, and easy to break. This new one is sturdy and the UV light system is internal (not part of the fountain spicket). I have to clean it about one a week and that seems to be enough.
