I'm taking an old rug out & found nice hardwood underneath - need to get the staples out.** A: Yes it will work if staple is high enough off floor. I have used it for that. My house had carpeting over hardwood floors and I had to remove the staples holding the padding. If the same problems I had, you will also need a fine blade flat tip screwdriver (to gently pry up staples not high enough) and a vice grip plier with a flat end (needle nose do not work). The vise grips work on the staples that the crescent tool cannot get, but it takes longer. **Q: Is this product made in USA?** A: Looking at the tool the word CRESCENT Brand with a circled R and NPII below on the tool. I do not have the package the product came in and that is where you would find more info. Look up CRESCENT on the internet and you will possibly get more info. This is a fantastic tool, i love it! **Q: Will this grab and pull nails in compodite deck boards?** A: It will, but the nail has to be up enough for the jaws to grab it. If the nails are below the surface of the decking, you’ll likely need another type tool. This is truly a remarkable product. I've used all manner of nail pulling devices over the last few decades and nothing rivals these pliers. Pro: Pulls 18 gauge trim nails from standard 3/4 inch red oak with ease. I've had issues with 5/4 oak (1 inch thick) - more on that below. If you can get a grip on the nail with the jaws, these pliers will pull the nail 98% of the time. Far better than using diagonal cutters or pry bars because cutters cut small finish nails and pry bars slip Well build, very solid, great grip Lots of leverage - will pull 18 gauge finish pin nails or 16 penny framing nails. Great for pulling nails from the back of trim work - preserves the lumber/trim for future use Remarkably inexpensive Con These pullers are bailed me out dozens of times when my Makita 18 gauge finish nailer misfires and the only time I've ever had an issue was with 5/4 red oak (5/4 wood is a full 1 inch thick). The 18 gauge pin nails just snap. But that's a rare occasion because I only use 5/4 hardwood lumber for unique applications. Otherwise, these plier/pullers work as advertised.
