It's held closed with a huge piece of Velcro so it opens and closes quickly while working in a fast pace environment. It's also machine washable but remember to close the Velcro before washing. It's best to let it air dry with it open (it takes a couple days to dry) or dry on low heat in the dryer so it doesn't shrink. **Q: This seems to be more for opening packages would it work for breaking down delivery boxes for recycling??** A: I work in a factory and have used this to open hundreds of boxes each shift. I use it to cut the tape and don't use it to cut into the box itself or you will dull it quickly. The blade can be turned around because it has a blade on both ends of the blade. Each blade is like really having 2 blades. Very good box cutter. I’ve been using it over 6 months 50 hours a week and drop it on concrete daily and it hasn’t failed me yet! I’ve even worn off the lettering on the tool 🤣 I use my blade to cut open thick plastic bands around pallets but do recommend you buy the side pack of blades even though you won’t have to change out that often, the extras are just nice to have for when you need them.
