Product Features 12V 600W Element : These elements are made from stainless steel to prevent any corrosion so are suitable for use in virtually all types of water tank Product Application → Great for use heating water in domestic hot water cylinders or water tanks in caravans,boats,workshops etc. Can also be used with waste vegetable oil in the the manufacture of biodiesel, and for home brewing etc → Can also be used with waste vegetable oil in the the manufacture of biodiesel, and for home brewing etc → These can also be used to prevent water freezing during winter months in livestock drinkers or raised ponds by connecting one to a large 12v battery recharged by a large solar panel or wind turbine, just use a basic 5 degrees c normally open thermostat and when the water temperature gets near five degrees the heater will automatically come on and warm the water by a few degrees before switching off again, one could also be used in the water storage tank in your loft if its prone to freezing in the winter months NOTES If you have a gas hot water heater you may wish to put an electric unit ahead of it. This way the gas heater is always being fed hot water so it does not turn on as often and for shorter periods of time when it does. If used as a diversion (dump) load, such an element is connected to the batteries via a charge regulator. When the regulator detects that the batteries are fully charged, it diverts the generated electricity to the element which heats water. **Q: I have a 100 gallon preheat tank plumbed ahead of my regular water heater. can I install this powered by 600 watt of solar panels. will it overheat**
A: I would not advise directly connecting this to solar panels as there are no regulars for the amount of power that enters the heating element. Solar panels are rated to a specific wattage in the best environment possible, but they will likely never achieve the written specifications on the panel/manual. Take note that in a typical 12V solar panel the output voltage typically ranges from 16V-18V, this is be cause you would need higher than 12V to charge a 12V battery and it is expected that the solar panels will not always get full sun. I believe best practice would be to get a charge controller and a small battery bank for your setup. You can get a decent charge controller for this setup for around $20-30 on Amazon. Batteries will vary, if you go with deep cycle make sure you have ventilation as they excrete flammable hydrogen gas, make sure you keep them filled with distilled water and have a cut off switch so they do not run under 40% charge. Running deep cycle batteries lose a lot of life if they are drained below 40% charge. You can also get lithium batteries that can be run all the way down to 0% without any difference in degeneration; however, with lithium batteries degeneration is occurs every time charging is initiated. With a solar panel and a charge controller you'll be constantly charging and discharging the battery. **Q: Can u run just one part of element for low demand and kick on the second part for higher demand**
A: Of course you can, but please take down both metal plate.

**Q: What the correct size of then ? Length and Width?**
A: Please make sure your voltage and wattage(12V, 600W), and then take into account the length (Tube length to the terminal flange:180mm) and flange(1" NPSM).

I used this for my son's science experiment which required heating a tank of water and regulating the temperature to a specific value. This worked great, no leaks thanks to the silicone gasket, and was a safe, low-voltage component. we coupled it with our own homemade temperature controller and it worked great! Would purchase again for any similar needs in the future. The heater is made from high quality materials, stainless steel and has the heating element brazed to the terminals for what looks like a long-life component that should last many years. Note: This heater comes with NO NUT, so you need to purchase one separately if not threading into an existing housing with threads or a nut already in place.
