There is give in the part where the zipper is and if you compress the suitcase it is the correct depth as advertised, but if you just leave it alone and fill the suitcase regularly it is over the 9 inches as advertised. I would say it is more like 9 1/2 or 10 inches. If you didn't tie a cord around your suitcase to compress it, it would not be 9 inches. Plus, the 20 inches in length is not including the wheels, and airlines always say their requirements or measurements are including wheels and handles.
