They are strong and the Vinyl Coating is a good protection from rust. Just slip the end of the Bungee cord into the spring hole, knot loop the end of the cord to hold in the Hook to make a fat end and you can have a bungee the size you need. I recommend to double the size you think you need and loop the bungee rather than just hook it from end to end and remove the bungee as soon as you can, to allow it to return to it's normal size. With the hooks and a roll of 3/8" bungee cord, I now make my only at the length I need. The 3/8" cord is the right size for these hooks. You have to screw the hooks on to the cord end. After you get the hook on a little past the end, you can pull the cord thought to the length you want. I then U the end and use a zip tie to hold it. Use a Width: 0.30 inches or 7.6 mm or wider, UV Resistant zip tie. That will give you a tensile strength of 120 Lbs. The cord I use is; SGT KNOTS DiamondGrip Shock (bungee) Cord 3/8" x 50ft. So I got these and cut the longer cords in three and four different sections and remade them into shorter cords. Problem solved. I used hog rings on the cords to act as "knots" on the cords to keep the waste of the cord in the knot as short as possible. You may need the longer ones, but if you don't, this is a nice way to make them more useful to you.They are a single wire on the hook, which is better for working with tarps.
