(it's a nuisance to use while always having to push the spring forward.)** A: This is a safety feature. Slice has a similar model (10515), also available on Amazon, that does not retract and that model also has a locking feature. **Q: Will this cut fabric?** A: I haven't tried, but it probably would. Not as precise as scissors, but it's pretty sharp. **Q: How do you "lock" the blade in the OUT position?** A: It does not lock, but there is a little recessed push tab on opposite side of the logo that prevents the blade slider and blade from retracting if you apply pressure to the push tab when the blade is fully extended. However, it may just be easier to hold the blade slider to the desired position when operating. The push tab is a little to small for my fingers to effectively operate. **Q: What size of slice blades do I get for replacement in this knife?** A: I'm ordering the knife, but will hold off on the extra blades, as HarleyGirl2002 says the [10404/10408] blades will not fit. The correct replacement blade appears to be Westcott 16510 (https://www.amazon.com/Westcott-Safety-Ceramic-Replacement-16510/dp/B019O2UE8M/), but "currently unavailable". The Westcott 16510 blades have 2 notches, and the image of the 16510 package back confirms, "They will work with all Westcott ceramic tools (16473, 16474, 16475)."
