The pump is the better quality metal parts, not the cheap plastic type. It's a bit challenging to insert, but deflated completely, closed valve to keep it deflated, gives enough rigidity to insert with lubrication more easily than in it's normal state. Using the base to give a steady, gentle pressure works well.Once in, only a couple pumps secures it sufficiently to be completely relaxed, and confident no leakage will occur. This was a surprisingly well made product, at a reasonable cost.
