Not so for previously tried probiotics. *by E***3 on February 13, 2017* This is my fifth try at a probiotic, and so far is the only one with consistent results. I have no knowledge of the biology or bacteria involved, and my reasons for use might be different than others, but it seems to work.My problem has not been diarrhea, IBS or bloating, but rather needing more consistent, cleaner bowel movements. Tendency has been more toward constipation than any other problem. The consistency of the stools were very pasty and sticky, which presented a hygiene problem and often required additional wet wipes for cleanliness. Acidic residue would remain in the area causing burning, and even staining of underpants became a problem.Historically, a regimen of Cipro for a UTI, would clear things up beautifully for about a week, but then things would return to normal. I tried four other probiotics starting with the Pearls over the past few years, but none produced any longer term consistent results. I have been using this product for four weeks now, with what I would call consistently excellent results.I realize that everyone's problems and body chemistry is different. There also must be a myriad of factors that will influence GI tract problems, including diet, exercise, medications and supplements to name a few. BTW, I also take 40mg omeprazole daily, which I'm sure must effect the colon. Captainbiotics seems to be working for me. I will update with any changes.UPDATE: It has now been two and a half months of usage, with excellent results. Other than an occasional irregularity, my bowel movements have been very consistent, smooth and clean, unlike before when I used other probiotics. My wife has now been trying these with a slight improvement for her two weeks of usage. Again, I'm not sure if it's just my specific body chemistry, but Captain Biotics has made a dramatic positive change for me. Hopefully it will continue for the longer term. I would love to hear some expert testimony on why these pills are so much more effective than others I have tried.UPDATE: Have now been using for five or six months, and results seem to be consistantly good. Of note, however, is that I am now taking three pills per day, and notice the difference if I drop back to one or two. Also of interest, is that these capsules are not all that big, but I find them difficult to swallow. The problem appears to be because they are so light that they tend to float in my mouth, unlike other larger and heavier pills. Not a serious problem, but takes some getting used to. ### ⭐ On My Near Vegan Plant Based Diet CaptainBiotics Caused Way Too Much Gas *by C***F on September 10, 2018* I've recently bought 6+ quality Probiotics products, all different brands, to try and test for possible health benefits. CaptainBiotics does have a few very unusual or unique bacteria strains I don't see available in any of my other Probiotics, and I believe some or one of these is causing me to have A LOT of gas. I've never had this much gas exiting and smelling in my entire life, AND none of the other Probiotic brands are causing anything close to this amount of gas. I suggest IF you're having a lot of gas with this product, then you should try other probiotic brands without the few unusual or unique strains I found in CaptainBiotics. I had no problem getting a refund with Amazon, BUT... there is very little to no additional information about this company online beyond Amazon. Had I known so little information was available about this company beyond Amazon's sales page, then I would not have even purchased this product. IMO, we should know more about "whom" is behind this company with additional information available online beyond the Amazon sales webpage. IF you have a near Vegan, Vegan, or heavily Plant Based diet, then it's possible you might get A LOT of gas using this product. Just trying one pill [that's 1/2 the suggested dose for 3-4 days] CaptainBiotics made my digestion much worse than before I even used any probiotics, and I had no symptoms of digestion problems beforehand. It definitely caused a lot of gas and discomfort, and I do not want to continue to experience these symptoms and risk causing even worse digestion problems.HEADS UP TO MEN: TWO of the bacteria strains in this probiotic are often found in a woman's vagina!!! WOW. Just search this for more info: "Lactobacillus crispatus is a common, rod-shaped species of genus Lactobacillus and is a hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)[1] producing beneficial micro biota species located in both the vagina, through vaginal discharge, and the vertebrate gastrointestinal.[2]" AND... "Lactobacillus gasseri is a species in the genus Lactobacillus. It is part of the vaginal flora. Its genome has been sequenced. L. gasseri is a normal inhabitant of the lower reproductive tract in healthy women. It also produces Lactocillin."Since I'm a male, then I'm seriously wondering if this was/is a likely beneficial strain for me to normally have in my digestive tract??? I seriously doubt it.One other strain in this probiotic has caused illnesses in humans. Here is the info about it: "L. mesenteroides is a normal occurrence on fruits and vegetables, and is generally not considered to be an infectious agent in humans. However, there are certain documented instances where L. mesenteroides has actually caused disease within humans. The most surprising of which was a case study where a woman, who was originally thought to have brain tumors, actually had two purulent lesions in her brain that were later successfully identified as an L. mesenteroidies infection (Albanese et al. 2006). Another case is shown where Leuconostoc species are found in cancer patients, and within patients who are critically ill, immunocompromised, or nonsocomial (Cuervo et al. 2008). L. mesenteroides is an opportunistic pathogen, and is not wide-spread in disease, but in more recent years, a large variety of diagnoses have found infections among human patients, meaning it has the potential to infect human hosts.
