The lid is only meant to keep the popcorn in the popper. It rises as the popcorn pops. **Q: how many cups does this popper make** A: I don't know exactly how many cups but I'd say about 7 or 8. I use 1/4 cup popcorn and si.w butter and salt and microwave it. Sometimes I puthink a little more popcorn etc. It turns out great. I love the popcorn popper and how the popcorn turns. You can taste the butter and salt if you add enough. **Q: Does this one come in a box with the features and benefits? It's for a gift, and I won't be there to explain it to the recipient.** A: Yes. This popcorn maker is easy to use and makes the best popcorn. I use one teaspoon of butter and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. After eating, my hands aren’t greasy and I’m not suffering from thirst due to all the salt. This popcorn reminds me of the popcorn we ate every night in our college dorm. It’s so much better being able to control the salt and not have any grease.I had become used to the bags you throw in the microwave and this popcorn is so much better. There are no ingredients to color the popcorn, keep it fresh, or flavorings. I’ve just ordered an airtight container to keep the kernels fresh and free from moisture.It washes up nicely and folds easily for storage.
