A Brazilian palm tree, Copernica cerifera, produces the carnauba in its leaves, berries and stalks. Villagers cut down fronds, dry them for several days, and then beat off the wax. Check out the video on youtube via wood work web https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7cgv0l4k8U (Part 1) and there is a part 2 as well. **Q: Can this be used on a cutting board?** A: OSMO has a food safe Hard wax made for cutting boards, counter tops etc. OSMO is made from natural oils and does an amazing job with sealing and protecting the woods that I have applied it on- mostly walnut. **Q: Is this designed to go on after varnishing? Or is this for a no-varnish / natural appearance?** A: It is designed to be applied after the surface has been sanded thoroughly and clean (bare wood.) I used it on my oak floors and a fir door. The finish is not shiny--it is very natural. If any scratches are made in the floor (or furniture) later, you can use some steel wool to buff them out and apply a little more OSMO with a rag and the finish is restored. **Q: other than the expensive osmo cleaning product is there a less expensive product to keep floor clean after apply this hard wax oil?** A: Thanks for the question. While I don't consider the OSMO wash and care an expensive product given it's a concentrate but having said that, you can clean any wood that has been finished with OSMO with your favorite cleaner.
