It's very sharp right out of the box and makes a very nice cut. The fluted design works great and makes a perfect cut with no grain tearing. I've used it to part off a 3" - 3-1/2" turning with no problem. It works on end grain very well also, when establishing the rim of a box or box lid. It's very small and narrow and light weight. If you are making tiny projects I think you might like it, but I don't like it.
