This 10gbe variant is no doubt overkill for an rj45 cable but, I figured it leaves lots of head room for future upgrades and getting 2.5gb down an ethernet cable in a few years probably won't be much of a stretch, I also figured if a 10gbe unit isn't running at 100% it would run cooler, but I'm not sure this logic panned out as it's very hot. But most importantly for this has added no noticeable latency to my connection, it around 8ms prior and checking the logs on my router now my ping for the past 24hrs has been 7-8ms... And researching transceivers seems to suggest it adds nanoseconds worth of latency which doesn't even register on an ms scale.
