You'll need to remove the screws to open the body and then see what battery is being used. If the battery leads are soldered to the battery, then you might want to find a friend who works with electronics. It's not hard but most people don't have a soldering iron at home or work. Small wire requires small solder wire. Flux/rosin is useful. A small thick paint brush for cleaning of residual flux is recommended for prolonging battery life by protecting from corrosion due to flux left on the battery terminals. Flux - is contained in the solder wire but additional DROP of flux/rosin is useful because that is what carries and generates the heat transfer. With soldering, you want quick heat and a small amount of solder. Too much heat for too long will melt plastic, parts, components and the insulation of the wire (unless it's Teflon, and I'm pretty sure they probably don't use that because it's more expensive). If you're planning to replace with a new purchase, then you have nothing to lose by practicing on the existing sensor first. If you succeed, then you have an extra sensor handy and can replace batteries on anything in the future. I learned to solder at NASA. We build our own rockets, payloads and battery packs from the bottom up... so it eventually hit me that I'm more than qualified to replace batteries, upgrade batteries, or even build new battery packs for my tools. Everything works just fine. 😊 Don't be intimidated by any project, especially if you're about to throw something, that is NOT biodegradable, into a landfill, anyway. It's worth trying to learn on; if not for yourself, then for your children OR your local high school OR community college. Technical schools and electronic engineering courses rarely have such simple projects available, yet I can promise you that these would be a worthwhile training tool for students. That being said, do NOT bother saving clearly dead TVs, etc because the cost of diagnosing the problem will cost more than the repairs, which will cost more than a new TV. (Samsung TVs that work fine until their screen fails to come on, but you can still hear the audio, is an example of a rare exception to that statement; they have a history of poor capacitors, which can easily be replaced for pennies in parts.) **Q: Charging tHow long to charge and when is it fully chargedhe remote sensor** A: Charging takes just a few hours in my experience. I don't want to keep crawling under the house to change batteries.** A: To be honest, I do not see why not, the only issue might be the wall plug adapter might not like being in the heat of the attic, since it is a mini voltage step down transformer they do have issues with high heat environments. That being said if you can find a longer cable for charging it might work for you. I have a little girl and wanted to monitor the temperature in her room when she is sleeping at night. I already had the receiver which has a nice screen and yellow light for viewing at night time. This remote transponder works great. It paired up easily. FYI: if you have more than one remote transponder, you have to remove the pannel on the back and select which channel you want to use. My receiver will accept a total of 3 channels, but you have to individually tell each remote transponder what channel it is going to be. I had to call Thermo Pro customer service to find that out, and it was such an easy fix.
