The current was sometimes between 10 and 20 amps. After some time the switch stopped turning on. I took the switch apart and found out something of a safety feature: If you over load the switch for some time, the metal heats up, but instead of causing a fire, it melts a plastic part in the mechanics of the switch and it disconnects permanently.
