The performance was recorded at the 1984 festival and was meticulously digitally restored and re-mastered in September 2007 under the supervision of Astor Piazzolla s friend and pupil Richard Galliano. This is the first live concert DVD ever filmed and released of Astor Piazzolla.It has been sixteen years since Astor Piazzolla s death. Now, for the first time, a live performance by the tango genius and his legendary quintet is available in its entirety on CD and DVD. The concert features some of Piazzolla s best-known pieces such as Muerte Del Angel, Adiós Nonino and Otoño Porteño. About the Actor








Often referred to as the Father of the New Tango, Piazzolla was an Argentine visionary who brought tango from the dance floors of Buenos Aires to the most prestigious concert halls and music festivals around the world. A soulful and accomplished performer on the accordion-like bandoneón, Piazzolla is considered today one of the leading international composers of his time. His opus, comprising more than 1000 works, a characteristic career and an undoubtedly Argentinean flavor continues to influence the best musicians in the world including cellist YoYo-Ma, the Kronos Quartet, guitarist Al Di Meola, and numerous chamber music and symphonic orchestras.

    Good Solid Performance by the Quinteto Nuevo

There only seem to be a few videos available of Piazzolla performing and this is currently (2012) the only one of what I would consider his most representative group - the Quinteto Nuevo.  For that reason alone this is a must-see.The performance is outstanding and represents Piazolla's music at its best - virtuoso chamber music played with drive and passion.  I would've wished for more material (at 53 minutes, it seems short) but we get what we get.I can also recommend

This is an awesome concert DVD. Randy Bachman continues to innovate and evolve his musical styles. This concert touches the old  (Guess Who & Bachman Turner Overdrive) and the new Jazz Thing. He still can play the guitar with feeling and technique. I really enjoyed the interview portions to hear about his and his bands' history. I was stunned to find out that the completely awesome Jazz Thing 2 album (with the New Guitar Summit - Duke Robillard, J. Geils and Gerry Beaudoin) was recorded in an afternoon. Duke is on this DVD and plays exceptionally.
