I will say that the first book is a bit slow to get into until the midpoint of the book. Nonetheless, some great stories and very different from any of the fantasy books I've read before. The chapters are very long which is something to get used to if you're more at ease with traditional structured books. As for the cosmetics, the illustrations are simply gorgeous. Despite the fact each illustration is done by a different artist, it is very cohesive (including the covers). The ones I own currently (the first 3) sit well on the shelf and have a perfect size (they're about the size of the Harry Potter hardbacks for reference.) Some people say the bindings came off from the book, however mine had no issues. Review: Great book - This is a greta book series. It was very well written and had great character development. It is deff. a solid fantasy novel series. You will not be disappointed. The book itself is a perfect-sized hardcover. The pictures inside the book are good, not great, but above average. Not a lot of illustrations - maybe 5-6 per book max.
