It has 6 blades on it, each about 1/2 inch long.The seller calls this comb a "Pet Dematting Comb" which is what it would best be used for. This comb would be best for pets with hair that gets tangled. It would not be a good brush for pets with short hair.In the "elbows" of the blades of this brush, there are sharpened edges for cutting out tangled and matted hair. These are very helpful when pet hair is very tangled and matted, and simply brushing out the tangles will not work.The back of the package says that this Dematting Comb might be suitable for small pets, like dogs, cats and rabbits, which makes sense to me. It also says that it might be suitable for large animals, like horses. I don't have horses, but I have to believe that this comb would be too small for use on a horse, unless the tangle was relatively small.Overall, the comb seems quite sturdy and the blades are securely embedded into the handle. And there is a hole in the end of the handle to tie a small rope or string for hanging on a pegboard. Yes, this actually will do the trick, but only to a certain point. If you can get hold of the underside of the mat, and hold it tight, this will surely "cut through" it with those sharp blades. But if you just try to pull out mats with this, it still pulls on their skin and that's painful. I ended up having to get my cat shaved, and will try to be better at mat control in the future. Still...this could be a useful tool if used carefully.
