The riser tube itself is schedule 120 PVC. This is a slightly different, and I think better plastic than whatever Kenmore had used for the stock riser. The stock riser had for some reason gone fragile and bendy and this had caused the riser to start acting like it was too short to connect to the softener head. Packaging and shipping from seller (oceanic water systems) basically consisted of slapping a shipping label onto the plastic bag that the riser comes in and giving that to the USPS. It arrived just fine on my doorstep.
