The ratio is 1 1/4 cups more water than rice (2 cups rice, 3 1/4 cups water; 5 cups rice, 6 1/4 cups water, etc.) and it comes out perfect every time. I believe for white rice it is 1/2 cup more water than rice, the brown rice requires more water. I tried to make from instructions using the lines in the cooker but that wasn't accurate so I use this ratio and it is perfect. Hope this helps. **Q: What is the measurement of the cup that comes with the cooker?** A: The above answer is NOT correct: (3/4 Cup or 135ml). That is the last gradient you see embossed in the "cup" but the cups "full" purpose is to be exactly at level (completely full, not heaping) witch equates to exactly 180ml (1 gō). This is done on purpose as it applies to the Japanese cuisine standard of measurement being 1 gō in volume, which is the standard for one serving of rice or sake. Make rice how you like it! *by S***E on 22 June 2026* I've been using a pot on the stove to make rice for years and never knew it could be this easy. I need it extra soft and mushy for someone who isn't able to chew and this cooker allows me to leave it cook for as long as I need to. I just add extra water and leave it on for 2 - 3 hours and voila - nice soft mushy rice. I've used it dozens of times and never had an issue with it. It has never burned and the extra steam is collected in a small container on the side or released through the steam valve. The only thing to remember when cleaning, is to remove the floppy part of the lid and give that a good cleaning every time. I didn't know that I needed to wash it and it got gooey and stinky in there.
