Review: Positive retention neck scabbard, very sharp handy knife - This is the second one of these I have ordered through desertcart. The first was two years ago. I wanted to get another, but they were, for some reason, unavailable. Then I recently saw them offered on desertcart once again, and I hit the "buy" button without consideration. That's how good this product is. I am a Registered Nurse (RN), and I wear it under my scrubs, under my t-shirt, against my skin. No one can see it casually, so I don't upset anyone by having a "weapon" on my person. Why do I keep it about my person? Every so often you NEED a sharp blade to open a med packet, a pill bubble-pack, a bandage box, etc., and I don't intend to waste 90 precious seconds leaving the bedside and running to the nurse's station to get some scissors (which, BTW, are not ideal for the job at hand). Those few of my sister nurses who have ever seen the knife don't mind it or don't care. It is just big enough to cut anything you need, and small enough to be completely unobtrusive and forgettable hanging around your neck during a 12-hour shift. To restate: it hangs around my neck for 12 hours and I am barely aware of it. Yet it is there when I need it. PERFECTION. When I need it, I pull up on the bead-chain, removing it from my scrub tunic, and pull it out of the positive-retention Kydex scabbard. The knife has NEVER ONCE fallen out of the scabbard on its own. This is important, because I don't need to be STABBING MYSELF IN THE ABDOMEN unexpectedly when bending down. Nor do I need it to fall loudly to the floor in the middle of rounds, while a bunch of physicians and administrators give me the hairy eyeball wondering why a weapon just dropped out of my chest. I am a former soldier (14-years US Army officer) and I understand the carrying (concealed and otherwise) of weapons. Yes, I use this one as a tool, but it is undoubtedly a very sharp, semi-serrated blade that could do serious, life-threatening damage were I to use it against a human being. It is both weapon and tool, and all depends on how you use it. In short, this blade is everything I need it to be. For the record, I ordered two other "positive retention neck knives" before I settled on this one to wear/carry daily. As stated, it is very convenient, comfortable, user-friendly, and sharp/pointy in all the right places. It is exactly the tool I need day-to-day. If a good neck-knife is what you are looking for, you can do worse - ESPECIALLY for the money. I cannot recommend this little gem highly enough. And THANK YOU, WEYLAND, for making this available again. I really **DID** need a backup! FWM
Review: Small Secure Compact Neck Knife - The WEYLAND EDC Fixed Blade Tactical Neck Knife is a small, budget-friendly neck knife Here's a breakdown of its pros and cons to help you decide if it's the right knife for you: Pros: Affordable: This knife is priced very competitively, making it a good option for budget-conscious buyers. Compact and Convenient: The small size and neck sheath make it easy to carry around without feeling bulky. I rarely notice it under my shirt Versatile blade: The combination of a plain edge and serrated edge offers some versatility for different cutting tasks. Comfortable handle: The handle is very nice with cutouts for grip. Sheath fit: The knife clicks into the hard sheath well allowing it to stay secure when moving around. Cons: Steel type: The 3Cr13 stainless steel is a lower-quality steel that may not hold an edge for as long as some higher-end steels. Overall: I like the knife it works out for what I sue it for. The WEYLAND EDC Fixed Blade Tactical Neck Knife is a decent option for those looking for a very affordable, small fixed blade knife that has easy access for light-duty tasks.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Country made?**
A: Well, the company is based in White Oak, Georgia. Does that mean that the neck knife is made there? I have no idea.
One of the other commenters called it "cheap Chinese steel which will need sharpening often." The first one I bought has been re-sharpened by me, yes, not perfectly but enough to perform the tasks which I require: slitting open pill blisters, plastic medical supply packaging, etc. I care less about where the knife is actually manufactured than by how it performs for the task I need it.
I'm a former soldier, and to me weapons (or weapon-like tools) are systems, meaning please provide me a good-performing scabbard for the knife you're selling me. The scabbard should accentuate the utility of the knife. I know some reviewers have indicated their scabbards didn't work properly; I regret that. Mine functions perfectly, still does after two years and upwards of 100+ presentations and returns.
I hope this answered your question? Take care.

**Q: Edc for a man?**
A: So I posted a lengthy review, and I still stand by every word.
I have a variety of small(ish) knives that I use for EDC, depending upon wardrobe. One for jeans, shorts, casual wear; a different one for a suit, etc.
I used this Weyland Tactical EDC knife at the hospital I worked at because it's concealable inside my scrubs using the ball-chain neck carry option. It's easily removable from the neck of my scrubs, and just as easily replaced with no fuss; just re-scabbard it and drop it inside my t-shirt and forget about it, gravity does the rest. This is as opposed to other clip-style knives that I have to use two hands to replace and adjust it properly in the small of my back wearing jeans/shorts.
I'm confident the holes in the scabbard would permit someone to jury-rig a paracord belt loop for belt carry or boot carry; I just haven't had to do that at this point. And the entire package rolls up nicely and fits into a pocket of my tactical backpack when I don't care to carry it.
All-in-all, I think this is a fine EDC for small jobs and would be useful for sd situations in a pinch. To me, a positive-grip handle and sharpness/pointiness is more important than size for edc, and this small knife has all those qualities.
I hope that helps!

**Q: Why do manufacfures choose deadly lanyards? Any lanyard you put around you neck needs a break away feature.**
A: OK, good point. The scabbard comes with a beaded chain. Now, I found the individual beads a bit large, and having had some experience with black paint wearing off against my skin, proceeded to switch it out for some regular old military-issue dogtag chain. I have a roll of that in bulk, and just cut it to the appropriate length to hang just down where I like it in my scrubs. I want it down far enough that it's not going to suddenly pop out when I bend down to pick up a patient, or whatever. Military-issue dogtag bead-chain is designed to break away with a moderate amount of force; certainly far, far less than bodyweight (choking hazard) and far less than a violent grab by an opponent (fight/combat hazard). As a Registered Nurse in 2023, I have to worry about the latter more than I care to; patients and their families are developing a reputation as becoming more and more "hands-on" with hospital types these days.
So my neck knife chain hands next to my dogtag chain around my neck, and my semi-choker Serviceman's Cross chain. I wear these three chains confident that they won't pose any kind of deadly situation to my airway or safety. You may or may not agree or follow suit, your call. But I've been wearing beaded chains for three decades now, and have never had a problem with this.
I don't know if you read my detail of the knife/scabbard itself, from last year, but it's a good little neck knife. I think it's perfectly sized. For the money, you can do far worse. To me, the whole package is a total recommend.

**Q: How do you get the knife out? It's so tight that it doesn't pull out.**
A: The sheath will need some heat to soften the kydex at the point where the knife goes into the sheath.I used a heat gun and moved the knife around in it’s socket to reform that area.
