You don't have to worry about watery sauces spilling as they would with a regular plate, but there is enough room to use a knife and fork, which you can't usually do with a deeper bowl. I like that it is bone china and has an elegant design. They aren't quite as durable as stoneware, but that's the tradeoff for the lightness of bone china. They are easy to clean by hand and in the dishwasher, but they do sometimes get a faint iridescent residue on the outside: I can't tell if this is an issue with my detergent or with the plates themselves. It comes off easily, though.
