You need the Unifi controller software to manage it correctly. This can be downloaded for Windows, MacOS and Linux from the vendor website or you can get their appliance (confusingly named "cloudkey"). The 4 ports on the right also support outgoing PoE with a 60W total power budget (you can connect a PoE camera or phone or similar device and they will receive power from the switch). **Q: Can us-8-60w be powered by another us-8-60w -- poe 802.3af (12w)? i understand the poe out would probably not work for the second device.** A: This Switch does not have a POE IN to power from another us-8-60w. You can use a US-8 Unifi Switch that can be powered by the us-8-60w.
