This gives you a nice shave of the ice and it almost looks like white cotton. Now I happen to like more of a snow cone texture where I can chew on the small ice pieces. The trick here, let your ice disk warm up. Yup, as strange as it sounds take the disk out of your freezer and let it set for 10 to 20 min depending on how warm your room is. The disk will easily slip out of the mold and you will get a texture that is a lot more course than if you use it right out of the freezer. Both of these tips require you to use the white molds that are sold by Hawaiian shaved ice. Trust me, they are worth it. Yes you can use any ice cube your freezer makes but if you want to get your perfect snack get the disk's and experiment with how long you let them defrost before turning them into a fantastic snack. This last hack is only for people who eat a lot of these. Your snow cone is only as good as your water. If you don't drink what comes out of your tap don't use it to make ice. There can be a big difference in taste using purified water over tap.
