Simply attach a FireWire cable from your computer to the hub, and attach your devices. This FireWire 800 hub and repeater will conveniently draw power directly from a powered 1394 port, automatically, while also powering bus power capable devices that do not have their own power source. Its DC power input jack can also be used with the always included, 110/220V AC power adapter, when the 1394/FireWire connection does not provide DC power. Even if the FireWire bus is already powered, the DC power input jack of the hub/repeater can also be used simultaneously, to supplement power draw from devices. The FireWire bus voltage will adapt automatically when needed. But it's not just used in the studio, or on the desk or rack- It is also designed for use in custom implementations and has screw hole mounts in its robust metal chassis. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this hub work with the newer Macs that only have Thunderbolt and USB inputs, by connecting it to the FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter?**
A: Yes it does. I have 3 FireWire RAIDs hanging off this hub for high-end video & audio. Works like a charm.

**Q: Does this hub run the mac superdrive?**
A: The SuperDrive is USB; this is FireWire/IEEE1394, so no, it will NOT connect nor run the SuperDrive.

**Q: Is a replacement cord available? I discovered it wasn't working and checked the cord but it wasn't there??? I need the cord it requires.**
A: I'm assuming that you mean the power cord?  Check the box it came in for all pertinent info (or check on the unit, itself....mine says DC 12V13A with a polarity symbol of --C•-- ..the black dot is inside the "C"...I just can't depict it that way), such as voltage, amps & polarity, of the adaptor, and you should be able to replace it easily.  You may even be able to get one at a Radio Shack or other local electronics supply store.  OR...if you save adaptors, like I do (for situations like this), check to see if you have one.  Adaptors are interchangeable, as long as you don't deviate from the specs.  Also, I picked up a universal adaptor unit at Radio Shack years ago, which has multiple settings.  MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT ONE:  CHECK YOUR OWN UNIT TO MAKE SURE, as it may not be identical to mine.AND...if you're speaking of the firewire cords, (which I don't believe you are), then Fry's Electronics is where I get mine.  You can order them online, as well.  You have to make sure of both ends, though.  800 -> 800 or 800 -> 400, whichever you require with your burner / computer.  I hope this helps.

A very useful piece of equipment, you can connect up to 7 FW800 devices, self-powered or using the AC adapter, with the 8th port for your computer.This is the second model I've bought, the first was also through amazon last year.I use a number of Western Digital RAIDs and other model FW800 drives with a pair of Mac Pros, as data storage ( 4~5 for each model), and for Time Machine back-up; and they do not like to be daisy-chained more than 2 together, sometimes failing to mount or dropping off the Finder. With this, I can connect them all in a sort of star configuration, so that they each connect to their MacPro via this hub only. They are now consistently and reliably connected.The device itself is well-constructed, small, easily located, or bolted to AV racks. It also frees up the second FW port on the back of the Mac Pro for other uses, such as audio or video interfaces. No drivers or software necessary, it really is connect and use.

I recommended this to a friend a while back for his growing nest of drives. I kept noticing he never had any issues with his drives but I sure was having problems in my home studio. So I finally got one myself and wished I had done it sooner. It works perfect. It came on time. Has a solid feel. I've used it for the last couple of months with no problems and no more weirdness with a ratty next of daisy-chained firewire drives suddenly not working. I purchased a second one for the tape backup room where I'm always moving drives in and out to archive data.
