## Questions & Answers

**Q: Up to what size chair is this suitable for? I am specifically referring to width.**
A: This ring didn't work for our recliner at all.  We were attempting to add swivel to a new rocker recliner, but the bottom of the chair was thrown completely off balance when we installed the ring base.  We tried three different methods to make it work, including a plywood plank and moving the entire setup to several different positions.  The chair was completely unstable with the ring base, so we took it off.  We are now stuck with a chair that won't swivel and a base that will cost too much to ship back to the third party supplier.  Don't make the mistake we made!

**Q: Can this work on a recliner that's never had a swivel base???**
A: Most definitely!  That’s why we bought it. Could not find a swivel recliner that we liked so purchased the chair we wanted and ordered this base.  You will need to purchase the bracket kit or make the brackets yourself.   Works perfectly!

**Q: I want to add this to a chair that has not ever swiveled. Will this base work since it is not a 'replacement' swivel?**
A: I had a great recliner/rocker but, did not swivel. I purchased this swivel base knowing I would have to modify my chair. It was a fairly easy job. I removed the leg assembly, cut a 2x10 to fit in frame where the legs were attached then bolted it all together including the swivel ring. Chair is now perfect, it’s a rocker/recliner and it swivels. It looks like it came from the factory!

**Q: What is the weight limit for these bases?  We are considering using them to build Periaktoi for our stage, so they have to hold the weight of 3 flats.**
A: I didn’t see a weight limit on the unit when it arrived. If I understand what a flat is I am guessing that it weighs less than the typical recliner with a average person in it.

These are great. I has to do some DIY construction on my chair to install the rings. However, it was not too difficult. The swivel rings work perfectly.

First of all, this chairpartsonline.com 25" swivel base is definitely a quality built product. One evidence of that is that the amount of drag in the swiveling mechanism is perfect — not too tight and not too loose. Second, a comment about installation: The manufacturer has done what it can to provide a relatively easy to install item (i.e. four rectangular carriage bolt holes in the swivel's top plate), so on that basis I gave it 5-stars for ease of installation. Since chairs come in a wide variety of chassis types, and for my chair it turned out that constructing a strong platform to which I could attach the swivel plate was very challenging. The chair had a chassis with numerous holes in it on each side —nice. I know that cross bars can be purchased to attach the swivel base to the chair's chassis, but given what I had to work with, I foresaw significant issues with that and decided on a custom solution. Part of the challenge was that I wanted to ensure that adding the swivel base would only raise the chair the minimum amount possible. I chose to recess the swivel base as much as possible up into the chassis while still allowing sufficient clearance between the chair's chassis and the swivel base. To mount the base, I obtained a 1.5" x 1.5" aluminum angle iron (got it on Amazon; M-D Building Products 58297 1-1/2-Inch by 1-1/2-Inch by 1/8-Inch by 72-Inch Angle Equal Leg Mill), then cut two pieces to the needed length and then drilled them out to match the holes in the chair's chassis. That step —matching with the existing chassis holes— seemed like it'd be a snap (just make a paper template, right?), but it turned out to be a bit of a time-consuming nightmare. Once that was finally done however, and once I had glued and screwed together some leftover plywood for the platform and had everything at exactly the right height, it all went together quickly —and attaching the swivel base was easy because of the provided carriage bolt holes. In the end, the swivel base added one inch to the height of the chair above the floor. Everything would have been easier if I had wanted to raise the chair more, but that was exactly what I didn't want. FWIW, I purchased the nuts and bolts, lock washers and super wide washers (for the plywood) at a local DIY supply store where I could see up close what I was getting.

So I reached out to the manufacturer about our Baby Relax Recliner that is about 7 years old. They told me parts were no longer available (ironic since it's a universal part) so I decided to give this one a try. It's a perfect fit and appears to be constructed more solidly and with better welds than what was on the chair originally. It took 5 minutes to install and I'm basing this review on 5 minutes sitting in the chair, but my first impressions are that this is a solid buy to breath new life into a chair.
