This was no exception. Now I'm not expecting to get a concert sound out of these, but they don't sound bad at all! They use their durable (if you treat them properly) synthetic heads. These are not tunable and mine are very high pitched, but my three year old son thinks they're fantastic. These are the perfect blend of toy drum and a "real" instrument.
