While still in his mother's womb, he recognized Jesus - also still in his mother, Mary's womb. "And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost" A Nazerite, he grew up a holy man. He lived in solitude in the desert, clothed in the skins of animals and eating locust and honey - all in preparation for the purpose of his life - to prepare the way for Messiah.None denied that John the Baptist was a holy man - a little odd, maybe even a little mad, but definately a holy man. Sadly, sometimes those chosen by God are compelled to say things that wrinkle the souls of the ungodly, and so it was with John. He called the religious leaders 'vipers'.
