## Questions & Answers

**Q: how do they hold up with a ruck?**
A: They have, thus far, been outstanding while carrying a heavy pack. They break in fairly quickly (so don't buy too big a size, they will stretch a bit, especially if they get wet) and are very comfortable. As far as durability, I think they're solid. That having been said, you'll want to give yourself (if you haven't yet) plenty of time to get used to a flat/barefoot type shoe. If you aren't used to it, I wouldn't load a full-size ruck and try to knock out 5 miles. That will be very tough on your feet and lower legs. If you're already a minimalist shoe person, then they are excellent and are holding up well in everything Colorado has to offer.

**Q: Would they work for motorcycling?**
A: Do your research. From what I have read these boots do not come close to what a proper motorcycle boot should be, if you really want to be safe.

**Q: Does it fit well? i'm asking this because i'm an 11.5 regular and i bought thes other tactical research boots and they were to big. should i get 11s?**
A: They fit like normal. I'm a 10, bought a 10, and they fit perfect. However, they are rough. They make a lot of noise. I ended up returning them because of their lack of comfort. I went with Nike.

**Q: These look tan, but say coyote; which is it?**
A: The boot is coyote - they were offered in tan at one time but are no longer as the military switched to coyote

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best there is but not great
*by on Reviewed in the United States 24 November 2021*

I’m on my third pair and get about 2 years out of each pair so far. I got mine 1/2-size larger and it fits well. It’s too snug with thicker socks when doubled up for cold weather and a tad loose when I double up some thin dress socks for summer hikes. But that’s okay since my feet swell in the heat anyway. These boots are the best compromise I’ve found between the typical over-built & over-supported hiking boot and a full-blown minimalist shoe, like a Xero. Xeros are cheaply-made and mostly designed for people that don’t use them much. These boots, from TR, are well-made and designed to get used a lot. On my first pair, I wore out the sole over about 3 years. I use them for everything from farm chores to hiking, hunting, camping so I felt that 3 years was a good life. I use them to stomp firewood, dig cat-holes, dig out rocks and a bunch of other abusive practices. They get soaked in the rain, frozen in snow, scratched up with brush and stickers, dried in near-desert conditions and everything in between. I gave that first pair to my son, who wore them for a season and then put them too close to the fire to dry…. My second pair has lasted about 2 years before the insole had some stitching bust and is now degrading where small pieces of white material are coming loose most days and rattling around inside the boot. Still, I’ve abused them well so I’m on to my third pair. They fit just like before so I’m satisfied. Value-wise, they’re the best. A minimalist-type shoe that I can wear & abuse for 2-3 years for about $150 is well worth it, in my opinion. Other minimalist boots barely last a season of light use on my feet and cost as much, if not significantly more. However, the one drawback is that they are still not quite a minimalist boot. Yes, it’s a low-drop from heel to toe but it’s not 0 mm. The sole is thinner than most hiking boots but it’s still not quite as thin as I’d like for hunting where I want some real feel for the ground for still hunting. While the leather is thick enough to shed a splash or two, they still get soaked in wet grass, rain or any time they have time to absorb water. They’ll dry faster than a waterproof boot but still not fast enough for most outings. So, again, it’s a good compromise, the best all-around boot for outdoorsmen & women who want a more minimalist shoe and a great value compared with other available options.Update 12/2024 I’m now on my 5th pair. The quality has degraded in the past couple years so they are only lasting about a year solid before the internal stitching busts. They’re still usable but I prefer to hike with something a little newer. Granted, I put mine through a lot of use and abuse. They get dirty, filled with stickers, hike all over CA in all seasons and even in AZ once or twice a year. Sometimes, my pack weighs well over 80lb. So your mileage may vary. Until there’s a better option, I’ll keep buying them. But I wish they lasted longer than they do.Update 10/2026 - Buying my 6th pair. They used to last until the soles wore out. Now, they're coming apart at the seams before the soles ever wear out. So the quality is definitely degraded. As it is, I have to keep them in rotation. New pairs get worn casually and, once broken in, get used on hikes. After about a year or so, they're showing some signs of wear. Stitches are torn, the sole is delaminating or something is wearing out. So then I buy a new pair and reserve the year-old pair for their final life as property work boots & hunting boots where they get extra dirty, full of stickers and overall just thrashed to death by use. I'll get an extra season or two out of those up in the mountains before they need to be replaced. They also need some kind of touch up, like new insoles, to get that extra year out of them.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent hunting boot. Needs refinement around heel area.
*by on Reviewed in the United States 26 January 2025*

In the never-ending battle for management of body heat, stealth and keeping dry while hunting I decided to give these a try due to the low-profile heel and sole construction.I hunt from the ground. I'll never be found sitting in a tree or blind. Stealth is a top priority. Being able to interact with the ground through feel will greatly improve one's ability to remain silent and undetected. For example, if you are keeping your eyes on the herd of elk, moving when only their eyes are not upon you; feeling the stick through the sole of your boots before committing your body weight onto it will prevent you from breaking said stick thus disclosing your location. These boots do this quite well, while having more traction than a crepe-soled boot. This boot also offers a large amount of ankle support, and flex. All checks in the right boxes for traversing uneven ground. This is all offered in a true-to-size and lightweight product. However, there is one major drawback in my experience. When properly tightly laced, due to the layered construction of the back of the boot; these boots would constantly pinch the back of my heel quite painfully. This is obviously less than ideal in a boot when it is not uncommon to cover 10+ miles across uneven terrain on a back country archery elk hunt. I would assume an extra pair of socks would alleviate this issue, but would take away from the ability to interact with the forest floor. I suppose a lacing them up less tight could also help; yet again taking away from the ankle support many non "road-hunters" desire.Overall, I would recommend these boots to anyone looking for a quiet and supportive ground hunting boot. Just make sure you also purchase some moleskin for the back of the lower leg, just above the ankle. For the price, I would expect there to be some drawbacks. A quality hunting boot with this much going for it could easily be found for twice the price.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Incredibly durable and minimalistic Summer boot, but could be better.
*by on Reviewed in the United States 8 February 2021*

I've used these for hiking, running, airsofting, shooting range stuff, and everyday wear for around 8 months at the moment. I've probably put around 100 miles in these things. Uphills, downhills, on concrete, on dirt, on sand, on snow, on puddles,Pros:True to color Coyote BrownVery good Summer boot, very ventilatingThin below the feet (not great when you step on sharp rocks, but it's better than Vivobarefoot Primus FG and Vibram 5 fingers)Very flexible (not flexible enough to roll them up)Good traction! (considering how low profile they are)Somewhat water resistantEasy and fast to tie and untie (meaning they also don't grip very well and stay, but I like being able to untie them fast)Thick enough all around to protect you from scratches from dry desert plants, and such.High on the ankle enough to prevent dirt/sand getting inside.Comes with a thin insole pad (which imo is pointless but adds some padding if you're into that).Very flat! No huge heel!Incredibly durable! Like all my other pair of Belleveille boots. Not a single stitch undone.Cons:Lugs are smaller than usual boots, which means less tractions (but the traction is still good none the less). Not water proof. Do not recommend wearing in snow (these are designed to be Summer boots).Little to no ankle protection (if that's what you're into, me personally I only like a tiny bit so this is perfect)Heel cup digs into your heel really bad. The only solution I can think of is wearing really really thick socks (like Darntuff military socks) but that really defeats the purpose of minimalistic footwear.Toes are not that wide! I had to switch to the 11 Wide's instead of regular 11's, and I can still barely fit my Correct Toes in them!No toe protection at all. Not even a composite plastic cap.Not truly zero drop (but me personally I don't notice a difference).EDIT:Took these airsofting for several hours worth for the first time. Lots of running, crouching, and leaning. The heel cup rubbed into my ankle to the point of bleeding. Even after wearing these things in for almost a year now, there's no break in period to make this heel cup less stabby. Gonna' have to take another star off.
