## Description

Glaswegian outfit, The Pastels, return with their first album in over 15 years, Slow Summits. The album was recorded with John McEntire [Tortoise, The Sea And Cake] in their hometown of Glasgow and features contributions from members of Teenage Fanclub, To Rococo Rot & Tenniscoats; whom the last collaborated with on Two Sunsets. The Pastels are back, thankfully!

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐

NOT NIck Drake. Not even Nick Drake-ISH.

*by J***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2013*

What snagged my attention was a review that stated the Pastels are making the music that Nick Drake would have, were he still alive. As a Nick Drake fanatic, I couldn’t pass this up. So, why doesn’t this work? Well, there’s no finger-style acoustic guitar anywhere; the music is just basic, droned, strummed soft-rock. There’s no delicacy to the arrangements; they just plod. And there are no real vocals to speak of; the women double themselves to stay on key, but the guys don’t even bother with that. This sounds like an R.E.M. demo, with scratch vocals added simply to hold the listening experience together for future overdubs and corrections. No life, no energy, no nothin’. At least they got the title right.

### ⭐⭐⭐

Sonically impressive, not a fan of the music

Vinyl review - while I am not a fan of the actual music (catchy tunes but drab vocals) the actual recording is fantastic. The soundstage is very clear, nice bass, and great separation. If you like the band, get the vinyl, it is a nice listen.

    can't stop crying

The most beautiful album of the year. I loved the recent collaboration with Tenniscoats but boy howdy this is the real thing right here. If you have ever seen 2001 A Space Odyssey, that big rock that the monkeys all worship...that is the The Pastels. Godspeed to you on this mortal coil. Thank The Pastels for making it bearable.
