We use it in our spaghetti pot (under the strainer basket). Since we started using it, there have been no boil-overs! Before we started using this, we had tried all of the usual techniques to prevent a spaghetti pot from boiling over. We tried vast quantities of olive oil, blowing on it, stirring it, adding salt, and changing the "order of operations". The olive oil kind of worked but made the noodles slippery. Stirring it and blowing on it work, but have to maintain a constant vigil. Now we just drop in the little smiling chef and 11 minutes later we have nicely cooked noodles (stirring once to prevent clumping). So the question folks may be asking is, "would a rock from out in the yard work better?" I don't know; after several decades of fighting with spaghetti, this little chef has won.
