Should the headband light up? I cannot find anyway to tell if it is actually working, or if it is broken?** A: There is no light. You can only tell it is working by the app- which you activate yourself which then tells you what mode it is in. Or if you actually feel sleepy, more focused etc. **Q: My elf emit is not recognising it is plugged into my device? i am using a samsung leaf 7. any ideas?** A: I sent mine back after 28 days because it did nothing for me.I could tell the application on my device was working because if I plugged headphones in (instead of the Elfemmit) there was a repeated chirrup in the earphones.The lack of a "confidence" light to confirm the device is receiving a signal from the phone/tablet is a big mistake (IMHO). **Q: Do you have to be online in order to use this device with the phone app? READ THIS? *by T***E on Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2017* If you are considering the purchase of an Elf Emmit -- for a number of reasons, I believe ou'll want to read this.First, the disclaimer: I am not associated with the company in any way, and I payed full price for my device.I first learned about this device when the ELF ad appeared in my Facebook feed. That was likely because I'd looked at numerous articles about neurofeedback and others related to brain function etc.Currently (and for the last several months) I've been undergoing neurofeedback training to help with my ADD. (Since you asked πŸ€—...that has improved my brain function in HUGE ways!)When I found the ELF website, I shared it with my therapist and asked if she thought this device might be helpful for me. She said it was a no-brainer. Very reasonably priced compared to other devices she is familiar with, and thirty days to try it out!Long story short -- I ordered my ELF emmit from Amazon and started trying it out for focus issues and to help me fall asleep. Hmmm. Interesting. Immediately, it seemed to help with both.The thing is -- as other reviewers have noted, it is nearly impossible to tell if you're really doing better because of the device OR if you're merely experiencing the power of suggestion / placebo effect.Fortunately for me, I AM able to have it clearly determined whether or not this device was helping me. When I went to my most recent Neurofeedback session, I took my ELF emmit along for experimentation / testing.If you're unfamiliar with neurofeedback, I'll give you a brief layperson's description of the type that I get. The purpose (in my case) is to get my brain to function at the most desirable frequency for focusing. This has been a massive problem for me for more than fifty years. A session consists of my therapist placing EEG electrodes on several locations on my scalp, (now I'm hooked up to a device and a computer) and I just sit and watch a movie.As I watch, the electrodes are picking up the frequency of my brain waves and when they drift out of the desirable range -- the picture on the screen in front of me actually SHRINKS. (That's the feedback part) Amazingly...my brain wants to see the full, big screened picture and with the help of the neurofeedback, it CAN be trained to stay in the appropriate frequency. It's actually quite amazing.So last Monday my therapist hooked me up for a training session and we compared my brain response with and without the ELF emmit. We tried it for focus and also for meditation-- which is another activity that my brain has kept me from doing successfully. My results were both concrete and, in my opinion, conclusive.My therapist described it like this: While working on my focus...my brain has already been much improved by neurofeedback, but without my Elf Emmit, there are still some stragglers...brainwaves that are stubbornly refusing to go along / get into the desired frequency. She said when I WAS using EE, the effect was like what a shepherd gets with a Border Collie, effectively rounding up the stragglers!Then we tried it for meditation. In this case, there was no movie to watch/ feedback for me to look at, I was just hooked up to the EEG for monitoring. Again my Elf Emmit got and kept me at the desired frequency for meditation! That was something I'd been unable to do in my own, EVER BEFORE!So my opinion-- if you're curious, I say absolutely TRY it!A couple of things to keep in mind after you purchase:1. Some reviewers have noted typos / incorrect spelling or grammar in the accompanying materials. Normally I'm quite critical of things like that -- but in this case it does not in any way indicate a substandard product or manufacturer. Don't let it put you off.2. The band DOES feel different from headphones or other devices you might own. It's something you have to learn to accommodate and get used to. It's not uncomfortable or painful. Be open minded about trying this new thing.3. You may note that the band seems a bit thin and potentially fragile. My experience is that that is the case but should not be a problem. Definitely read the instructions and treat tour ELF emmit with care, and it will serve you well. Most importantly, you do NOT put it on by bending / spreading the ends like you do with lot of headphones. You merely slip the device on at the back of your head/ neck holding the center piece and allowing the ends to gently move apart on their own.It might take a little bit of time and/or effort to get used to your device...but it's definitely worth itFinally...their customer service is wonderfully caring and responsive. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Only Time will tell, but I am disappointed on the quality. *by T***Y on Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2017* This product unfortunately is made very cheaply of plastic, that I don't feel will last long. The line that is used to connect it to your iphone or your Ipad or what ever is very shot, and I can see it breaking fast. I got it today and there is no light on the head piece that is telling me that it is working, for all I know, I just have a piece of plastic on my head, no light indicator.Also, there is no application for computers, so this is a big downfall, it won't work with a phone emulator like bluestacks as far as I can tell, which is very disappointing. Not everyone can afford, to have a smart phone, as much as I would like one, I can't afford it.I think this product is so cheaply made it won't last long, and is really over priced for what it is. The FDA cleared Alpha Stim which is used for mood disorders, is must more expensive, but built better, and has the FDA backing. This product might have some merit, but they are not doing what they need to do, to make there product better. I will try for a few days, and then I think it is going to go back, especially since one friend said, it depends on how open you are to using it. A medical device doesn't depend on your openness, it depends on you being able to use it. Their software lacks any kind of customization and the customer support doesn't seem to care about helping customers, only telling them that it takes weeks to get it to work and there's nothing you can do except send it back if you aren't satisfied.
