The photos are deceiving - the upholstery is not carpet: it is the rough, thin material that they use to line the trunk of your car. There is a thin strip of padding underneath the upholstery on the cradle and the step, which causes the material to bunch and wrinkle. The sisal rope is synthetic: it is the plastic twine that is often used as ribbon material, not the natural sisal you you'd normally expect to see used on a scratching post. They effectively made something that looks like a cat tree, but for all practical purposes is not. It is disappointing, because this was about the only cat tree that I found reasonably attractive and functional! She loves it. The top is big and plenty of room to stretch out.
