**Q: Are these really an assortment of sizes?  One customer review states that they are all the same size - #6 but he does not explain lengths.**
A: They are an assortment of lengths... #6 is the diameter

**Q: What exactly does the #6, #8, etc. refer to?**
A: #6, #8, #10, #12 refer to machine screw sizes.  It is an old standard, but still used today in sizing screws that are smaller in diameter than 1/4".

**Q: Does the #6 refer to width of the head or the thickness of the screw length?  I bought these but they are not 'thick' enough.  Not worth return costs**
A: The #6 refers to the thread diameter, which for a #6 machine screw is 9/64".
