Winsor and Newton Cotman Water Colours are a range of water colours that are made to Winsor & Newton's high-quality standards, but costs are reduced by substituting traditional pigments with less expensive modern pigments. The range offers excellent lightfastness, good tinting strength, good transparency and true optical working properties. Cotman Water Colours come in 40 beautiful tones. They're affordable but uncompromising on quality - they have excellent tinting strength and are easy to work with.Cotman Water Colours Metal Sketchers' Box is lightweight containing 24 assorted Cotman Water Colour half pans and an instructional leaflet. The box itself has an integral palette in the lid plus a hinged flap for mixing and tinting plus a thumb ring in the base.The Cotman Water Colour range has a more uniform consistency than the Professional Water Colour range and this benefits beginners as there is less to learn about each individual pigment. The Cotman Water Colour range also relates to the Winsor & Newton Professional Water Colour range, e.g. Burnt Sienna in both ranges has the same hue. This enables artists to use colours from both ranges with minimal adjustment to their technique.Costs are kept to an economical level by replacing some of the more costly pigments with less expensive alternatives. Review: The colours are great and love the quality 💕 - I love the colors definitely high quality and easy to use it is quite distinctive from other water colours and the texture is is more on the creamier side and you don't need alot As you can dilute it in water i use a 2 water to 1 colour ratio which seems to work just fine for my style if art The only concern I have is that the colours when first opened seem to burst out leading to wastage of the colours and the quantity is a little less but it doesn't really matter as you barely need that much colour also I filled it into a palette before use so it worked out well for me The purple lake colors came a little damaged in the packet it had exploded just a little but I didn't really mind it I just wiped it and started using it

**Q: What is meant by 12 count? 12 of what?**
A: I have searched for the answer to your question.  There are 20 tubes.  Not sure where the number 12 came from.

**Q: Do you know if they are "Artist" grade or student grade?**
A: The Cotman line from Winsor/Newton is student grade.  Professional grade watercolors do not use the word "Hue" in their color description, which indicates they're not made from true pigments.
