Review: Versatile smart relay - Great little smart relay, easy to connect up and can have a single pole switch connected to make it a virtual two way switch in a lighting circuit. Small enough to fit in a ceiling rose too. Can run 12v as well as 230v which is really handy. I’ve used them on lighting circuits but also for Smart Control of a 12v dead bolt on our front door. They work with matter enabled and Shelly have their own app, but there’s also an open source firmware that allows it to work with Apple HomeKit too - firmware is nice and easy to install from just a phone for anyone with a medium level of knowledge.
Review: Most useful device - These are simply extraordinary pieces of engineering, packing a very powerful punch. Not only can you use these to switch devices in or off- mains or dry contact- but the switch function can also be used to sense. Mine are fast and reliable, much more so than Z-wave devices. Programming can be performed by WiFi or Bluetooth to set operation parameters or even macro-like event programming. For example, set up as a momentary switch, one push can initiate a sequence of events including timings. You can also connect to them via the cloud from a browser or even CarPlay- useful for opening gates, doors, or other functions. Absolutely amazing devices for the money.

**Q: Is this the UL version?**
A: They offer a UL version at an additional cost.  You can get the part number on the Shelly website.

**Q: What is the maximum load I can run on the switch? I have 4x60w lights connected to it. The ports don't support a normal electrical wire gauge.**
A: The units each have the maximum current capacity printed on them.  It says :"MAX 16A"  that means the maximum current is 16 amps.  I have no trouble inserting #14 gauge wire in the slots.  Larger size wire can carry more current than 16 Amps, so I assume it is a design feature to prevent people from wiring larger loads into the unit.

**Q: Can i use this device to trigger an output based on an input?  for example, if i receive 24v through a switch, i would want it to trigger an output.**
A: Yes

**Q: How many watts does this use on idle? (Please be more precise than <1W)**
A: so little that I have never bothered to measure.  However, I have never used one on battery powered device other than a car where there is ample stored capacity in the car battery

Great little smart relay, easy to connect up and can have a single pole switch connected to make it a virtual two way switch in a lighting circuit. Small enough to fit in a ceiling rose too. Can run 12v as well as 230v which is really handy. I’ve used them on lighting circuits but also for Smart Control of a 12v dead bolt on our front door. They work with matter enabled and Shelly have their own app, but there’s also an open source firmware that allows it to work with Apple HomeKit too - firmware is nice and easy to install from just a phone for anyone with a medium level of knowledge.

Used this to control my vivarium light, mainly through alexa but also with my phone. I did a bit of research because I wasn’t sure if you needed to wire a manual switch for it to work (you don’t). Wiring is fairly straight forward without including a switch. Had a few problems pairing it to the app but that could well have been user error. Once I’d got it connected, added the alexa skill, paired my Shelly account and it works flawlessly. Can’t comment on reliability yet but it appears to be good quality. Would have been cheaper to just put an inline switch in but who doesn’t love a gadget.
