If you are using it on wood, It may wear down more easily than say if you were cutting on linoleum. I would recommend getting a sharpening tool. but even then, this tool can go a long time with out being sharpened before going dull. This tool is very sharp and if you are a beginner using these tools, I would also recommend getting leather Finger guards, which prevent accidents. I am very careful and have cut myself twice with these tools, ( because i didnt put the guards on), and they seemlessly slice through your skin. I have made minor cuts that bled and i cannot imagine accidently majorly cutting yourself with these tools.
