Because of this, the NYPD has been cracking down on bicycle safety, and people have been getting tickets for not having proper equipment, or the worst case scenario, getting their bikes seized for dangerous riding. I'm a BMX rider, so I set out to make sure I have all the proper items on my bike so I would not run into trouble. I know it is unorthodox for a BMX to have all safety gear required by NYC equipped on it (people usually strip everything down off these types of bikes for weight), but I'd rather have these cool little lights than pay a fine for not having them.The lights themselves - The design of the lights are great. They're angular and cool looking, and I just love how they're shaped. They charge up very quickly after basic use, but from a completely dead battery back to 100%, you can expect to wait 45 minutes for them to be fully recharged which isn't bad at all. To my surprise, I've found that they hold their charge for months if left unused. We had a very cold winter in the city, and my bike went unused for a very long time. I went to check the battery life recently and only the red light had fully depleted. The batteries are great overall and have stayed on past the estimated time it lists on the chart for the different lighting patterns. I like to use the solid (non-blinking of any type) mode, which is the highest battery drain on the list, and they stay lit for hours. I've been able to go on an average of 4 very long rides before they need a recharge. The brightness of these lights is perfect for regular city night time riding conditions. They don't project a huge cone of light, but they are visible from a very good distance. They're not built for trekking through a pitch black forest or trail, they're designed just to have basic viewable lights, and they do their job perfectly.The packaging - The box they come in comes with a little velvet drawstring bag to keep everything: 2x lights, 2x mini USB chargers, 4x rubber O-rings (2x small rings and 2x large rings), and an instruction manual. It's a great little package.The negative - The one and only concern I have with these lights is that they are secured only by the rubber O-rings. There's no option to have any way that would let you screw them onto the bike. I understand they designed these to quickly be removed and charge them easily because they are USB, but if someone recognizes them on a bike that's chained outside on the street, there's nothing stopping someone from stealing them. So for NYC, if I have to leave my bike outside, I take them off just so no one swipes them. However, I knew this before I bought them, so I won't knock any stars off just for that. But it would be great if they made an adaptable back bracket with which you could secure them to the bike with screws if you wanted to.Overall, these lights are the best bang for the buck you can find if you need basic lighting to get your bike up to code to be street ridable and roadworthy, not to mention if you want higher visibility for safety. They're the best looking lights out of all the options I've seen, and I can't express how happy I've been with them. Β With the kids now old enough to bike around with the husband and I all over town, we discovered that we needed more bike lights to keep everyone visible and able to see the ground in front of us while biking. Some areas of our city have spotty lighting, and while it's only a short distance between street lamps, it always puts us at ease knowing everyone is visible and everyone can see clearly. Because we didn't want to invest in $80 lights for our kids bikes just yet, I purchased the Outair Bike Lights with the intention of making my kids more visible to other drivers, but didn't have high expectations of the lights - at ~$10 for both lights, I figured the kids could learn how to use the lights while not breaking the bank should they lose or break them. Despite the low cost, these lights have exceeded my expectations. Both lights are bright, hold a decent charge - we use our regularly every other day for at least an hour at a time - and quickly charge using micro USB chargers.Both lights are bright and feature one solid light pattern and three strobing light patterns. While these lights are not as bright as our Bike Shop lights, these are way better than anything I've used from a dollar or big box store, and much more cost effective. The lights are easy to attach to the bike handles/seat post using the included rubber o-rings, but if you happen to lose one or break one, they are easily replaced. The lights stay firmly in place once attached to you bike, and are bright enough to illuminate the ground in front sufficiently to avoid potholes, pine cones, and other biking hazards. Overall, we're so pleased with the lights that we're purchasing a second set for our daughter's bike as well.
