The FR-3 fits the four-notch tool fittings found on SunTour freewheels manufactured beginning in 1986. Thin wall construction allows use without removal of cones and locknuts. The 1" hexagonal base can be used in conjunction with a socket, wrench, or bench vise. Heat treated alloy tool steel construction for a lifetime of use. The four notches of the FR-3 are approximately 24mm across measured outside to outside. Center bore for axle clearance is 10mm. PARK TOOL: YOUR GUIDE TO THE WORLD OF CASSETTES & FREEWHEELS CASSETTE OR FREEWHEEL? To determine the type of rear sprocket system you have, find the tool fitting on the sprocket set. Spin the sprockets backwards. If the fitting spins with the cogs, it is a cassette system. If the tool fitting does not spin with the cogs, it is a freewheel system. COUNT THE NOTCHES To determine the type of freewheel tool needed, count the number of splines or notches and measure the outside diameter in the tool fitting. If there are 4 notches and the tool fitting is 24mm across, the FR-3 is the correct tool.
