It has light weight chains which make it want to "hang up" if you are not smooth with your pulling. You have to jerk it in the opposite direction to free it up and then is operates just fine. Once you get the hang of the pull it likes, it lifts without hanging up. My other chain hoist is also a light duty model, but has slightly larger chain links and does not hang up at all. I probably would not have known any different if I did not already own a hoist very similar.
